Ralf S. Müller studied veterinary medicine at Ludwig Maximilian University in Munich from 1980 to 1985, earned his doctorate in 1987, and worked in several large and small animal practices before completing his residency in veterinary dermatology at the University of California, Davis, from 1990 to 1992. He then moved to Australia, where he served as founder and director of a veterinary referral clinic together with his wife, Dr. Sonya Bettenay.

From 1999 to 2003, Dr. Müller was a professor of veterinary dermatology at Colorado State University in the United States. During this time, he was also a visiting lecturer at the University of Zurich, where he completed his habilitation. From 2004 to 2026, he taught and conducted research at Ludwig Maximilian University. His research areas were allergies and ectoparasites.

He has been in private practice since 2026. Prof. Müller has given more than 1,500 lectures and seminars around the world and has published over 300 studies, case reports, articles, books, and book chapters.
